Naomi Campbell is a registered nurse with Florida Nursing board. She has worked with Cleveland Clinic for more than 10 years. She started her nursing practice in the year 2000. Naomi has a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from California State University. She graduated in the year 1999. She is currently expecting to register for ELM (Entry-level masters program in Nursing). She considers her career success even though she has faced numerous challenges in the past. At 32, Naomi considers herself lucky to have landed in nursing given that most of her family members opted for other courses. However, she is happy to provide care for patients. She has also instituted several programs aimed at creating awareness of hazardous cases that could lead to acute illnesses. Moreover, she is outspoken with 5 years of experience as an educationist and an advocate for healthy living (OGrady, 2008, p. 1).

Roles of a nurse as an advocate: Example of the case when they acted as an advocate
Naomi says that nurses have a role as patient advocates. In fact, she has played this role in the past 10 years. She defends the needs of patients and considers them central to her plans. Moreover, she has engaged other stakeholders in advocating for patients right to care and service from all the relevant stakeholders.

Educator: Example of the case when she worked as an educator
As stated earlier, Naomi has spent most of her time educating patients on ways of living a healthy life as well as on issues related to hazards. She has been also engaged in the community with the aim of reducing cases of driving being drunk in California. On a global stage, she has engaged other nurses in issues related to patient care.

Responsibility: What does a typical day look like in the life of the registered nurse? How do they manage their daily activities?

Naomis life at work is usually rigorous because of the number of patients delivered in emergency cases. Most of the cases attended to are accidental injuries and fevers. Some of these cases require X-ray services, which are provided in the hospital lab. She, therefore, arrives at the hospital at 6.00 am in order to prepare early for daily activities. She then leaves late when the night shift of nurses takes over. During the day, she is usually busy attending to patients and preparing patient records. She says that over the years, she has used to her daily chores and does not feel its hectic demands.

Naomi says that she gives patient priorities based on the first come first serve model although she gives way for emergencies, which may arise unexpectedly. By doing this, patients are assured of impartiality, which is a common ethical issue in hospitals. This has enabled her to win patients belief in her personality and unswerving character.

Describe how they manage their stress at work and personally
Due to the high number of patients arriving as well as other complexities, it is understandable that stress is a factor. However, with experience, Naomi has managed to reduce stress to manageable levels due to her strength and devotion to help everyone at all costs. Moreover, her family has been supporting and this has contributed much to her peace of mind. At work, they have group exercises that diffuse tensions and help them manage stress.

Describe any incidence when they had an ethical dilemma or conflict and how it was resolved and what was their role in it?

Acute care centers are usually busy bringing about tensions as patients feel they are unattended to. However, one of the most important periods in Naomis nursing life was when an aged patient was brought for treatment. At the same time, a young girl whose father was quite impatient needed attention. Considering the two cases, she opted to help the aged woman even though the childs father had come earlier since the woman had a high fever and her case required immediate attention as compared to the young girl. The girls father was furious and threatened to report to management. Fortunately, another nurse was around and she attended to her. She goes on to say that such ethical issues are common in hospitals.

Any cultural competency example the nurse can provide
Naomi alludes to the fact that cultural competency is instrumental in managing conflict associated with nursing practice. This is most essential to patients as they look up to nurses as advocates of caregiving and healthy living. In addition, she says that embracing cultural diversity in a nursing setup is vital to achieving cultural competency. For instance, she pays special attention to patients from minority communities in California.

Does she like her job and why? What roles did she have in her nursing career in the past?

Naomi says that she loves her nursing job. In fact, she says that she has been offered an opportunity to act in senior posts but declined due to her passion for nursing. She believes that going into management would deny her the opportunity to attend to patients regularly. In the past, their work was not as complex as it is now. In fact, they used to specialize in a few areas. However, currently due to the changing trends in the health sector, she has had to multitask as well as she had to go into areas, she previously thought were meant for doctors alone (OGrady, 2008, p. 1).

What has changed in nursing in the past 10 years and if she likes it or not? Comment on it.

The changing trends in nursing practice have been continuous due to the technological developments being seen over the decade. Naomi says that one of the major successes in health sector is technological advances that have made their job easier. Moreover, she also says that multi-tasking has also made them instrumental in the job. In the past, they used to specialize in one area or another. However, currently, they have been trained to respond to most health issues as the health sector becomes increasingly complex. Nonetheless, she says that this has brought about competency test, which is rigorous as opposed to the past. This will enable her to offer better services than in the past.

What was her inspiration to become a nurse? Were any struggles she faced in becoming a nurse?

Naomi says that although her parents never thought of her as a nurse, she dreamt of it from her youth. She gives a story of a tragic accident that took place near her middle school in California. A collision occurred between two cars whose owners lay lifeless on the road. She felt bad that she could do nothing to help and sought help from the nearest police post. One of the victims died out of excess bleeding while the other survived. Since then, she resorted to becoming a nurse. The main struggle she faced was her familys opposition to her choice of career. However, they later allowed her to continue with it.
