Leadership and Quality Nursing Assay
A mentorship program in the field of nursing plays a cardinal role in enhancing personal and professional development. The program provides an opportunity to access support, access resources, and develop a clear understanding of (Sullivan, 2012). These benefits can only be achieved if a student works with a good mentor who is highly experienced and willing to share knowledge with the student. It is in this regard, that this study reports a conservation that I had with my mentor, Rita Bosnia, on the following issues:
Leadership Theory
Rita Bosnia relies on the participative theory of leadership that is manifested through the transformational leadership model. She exhibits the leadership model by ensuring commitment to organizational goals and objectives, use of effective communication skills and promotion of shared leadership through the guidance of the staff members (Amer, 2013).
Acknowledgement of Participative Theory
Based on the conversation with the mentor, it is evident that the leader acknowledges participative theory of leadership by encouraging staff members to collectively pursue the activities and processes in the organization. The latter also relies on information sharing among organizational members as the best tool for participative leadership (Sullivan, 2012). Rita as an educator also embraces participative theory of leadership by working with different professionals and students.
Participative Theory of Leadership
Participative theory of leadership is hinged on the belief that an effective leader must embrace the contribution of others in an organization (Amer, 2013). The leader in this context encourages members to participate in decision making, information sharing and fosters motivation of staff members. Participative theory of leadership also embraces the leaders ability to influence the behavior and attitude of employees during change (Sullivan, 2012).
Forecasting Done By the Mentor
Rita Bosnia uses forecasting to identify talent management activities that are important in training and mentoring other professionals. She also relies on information from her leaders and peers to benchmark. This approach enables a leader to identify challenges and areas of improvement in her profession (Amer, 2013).
Pros and Cons of Forecasting
The forecasting approach used by the mentor has advantages which include an opportunity to integrate new practices into the values of an organization and in formulating departmental and organizational strategies. However, forecasting used by the leader has some disadvantages which entail mismatch between actual practices and anticipated practices in the organization and lack of adequate data to predict changes in the work environment (Sullivan, 2012).
Regulatory and Accrediting Agencies in the Mentors Facility
Rita works with Medstar National Rehab Hospital and Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home in different designations. The two organizations have similar regulatory and accrediting agencies. The institutions are regulated and accredited by CMS and The Joint Commission. However, Medstar National Rehab Hospital is mainly regulated by CARF due to the nature of its core services (American Psychological Association, 2010).
Issues Associated With Regulatory Agencies
The Joint Commission aims at enhancing safety and quality of services provided by . To achieve its objectives, the commission ensures that health care organizations adhere to expected standards and practices. CMS as a regulatory agency ensures that all organizations in the health care sector stick to the required conditions that are necessary in improving the quality of Medicaid and Medicare programs (American Psychological, Association 2010).
Issues Associated With Accrediting Agencies
Different accrediting agencies have different issues which they promote to ensure delivery of quality services. For instance, CARF aims at improving the quality of rehabilitation services by reviewing the standards and practices within a healthcare organization (American Psychological Association, 2010).
