Leadership in Nursing Overview and Analysis

The results of my that I am a supporter of transformational leadership. Yet, I am not sure that these findings are accurate since they do not fully reflect my perception of nurses roles. The problem is that I had to choose between two approaches namely charismatic or transformational leadership. Under the circumstances when I have to choose only one of these options, I give preference to the transformational approach. I do believe that a leader should be able to inspire other people and set an example that they should follow. Moreover, this approach implies that managers should foster the creativity and initiatives of the frontline personnel and this is the principle of transformational leadership (Kelly, 2012, p. 9). In my opinion, these issues should be considered by nurses or other medical workers. However, I do believe that an individual should be self-confident when interacting with others. Apart from that, this person should defend his/her decisions and opinions, and this is an attribute of charismatic leadership (Kelly 2012, p. 9).

Overall, I would to be a leader who sets an example to people with whom I interact. In this case, special attention should be paid to colleagues and patients. I am willing to become a role model for people who seek my assistance. I want to follow a healthy lifestyle that prevents people from smoking or developing obesity. In this way, I will better encourage my patients to for their health. This is one of the goals that I want to attain. If I manage to become a role model, I will be able to cope with my professional duties.

I attach great importance to emotional intelligence or the ability to understand the feelings and perceptions of others.

In my opinion, my emotional intelligence is very high; moreover, I think my social skills are well-developed.

These skills can help me better communicate with my colleagues and patients who may often need my empathy, advice, or encouragement. However, I do understand at this moment, I want to learn more about the profession of nursing.

Several factors affect a persons satisfaction with his/her work, for example, one can mention the amount of compensation or the prestige of the job. Judging from the rating that I completed, I can say that I tend to focus on the which are related to job security, the rules adopted in the company, working conditions, the social status of a job, and so forth. However, these benefits are not sufficient for a person. One should not forget about motivating factors. For example, I can speak about the ability to , recognition of other people, and the degree of empowerment offered by the organization. I also attach much importance to such an issue as professional fulfillment or the opportunity to and skills. Without this opportunity, the work of nurses can become very unfulfilling or at least uninteresting.

It seems to me that a good job should combine both motivating and maintenance factors; otherwise, employees can become dissatisfied with their work. This requirement should be considered by administrators who want to retain nurses in hospitals. These are the main arguments that can be put forward in this case.
